![]() Many people question the concept that creativity can be a process. Its not exactly what I am after but I am enjoying the process of trying different shapes and different lighting. The above image is my beginning attempts at doing some of the images in chiaroscuro. Is there one way to create? This is my question? Does it need to be from a strong clear standpoint that we commence or is it something less linear and more fluid that changes over time and we are given insight into its greater meaning as we delve further? So why would this not be possible for photography also? I had thought that as I began and work through this project that I would understand my need and desire to create this idea. In other words what drives me to do this, what am I trying to say? I question this as I don’t think we always now why we do things at the time of doing them, but that in retrospect you gain clarity. It was suggested that my idea to paste photos on the mannequin would not/may not work as I had not formulated the “core concept” or theme behind it. I am now working with a final goal in mind however the approach I take and what I learn along the way still remains to be discovered. Therefore this has seen me approach my work from a different angle. ![]() Whereas this semester I want to develop an idea or concept that I feel I can complete without depending on others to produce the work. I felt like I had the idea and could not fulfill the outcome. However I found it difficult to follow through on this concept as I did not have access to people that I felt I could ask this of. When considering my documentary subject last semester, I rested on an idea of using violence as the theme and shooting one or two subjects in a sequence of imagery such as one person being aggressive and the other being more submissive following through scene by scene to produce an event and the outcome for the individuals after the “fight”. Normally I would work from an idea or concept first and then work out how it may come together, however, I have often found this approach is a little hap hazard and I am often disappointed that I did not consider this or that before commencing the project. This is as far as I have gotten with my idea. In a nut shell, my idea is to take photographs of the human body using chiaroscuro and then paste these images onto a mannequin. As I formulate new ideas for photography I am finding it difficult to find the right language to translate the concept I am contemplating. My lecturer for Visual and Conceptual Development: Building Creativity asked us today in our first lesson with him whether we had any idea’s about our final folio submission. or a scene at a cemetry or something more whimsical like Dalesford with the misty tree's lit up with the car light or none of the above? Not sure which one is the better idea, I may just start trying the shoot the different ideas and see which one creates more excitement and enjoyment and creative idea's for me. Or possibly doing something totally different such as a stalker type scene peering in through a window image 1 the outside of the house, image 2 the person being watched. I have been playing around with a few different concepts for this assessment such as commencing my images for the final folio (the nudes using chiaroscuro) as this would fall into the realm of creating mood with light. The above image is two sources of light, the use of a hand held torch to light various aspects of the scene I set up, whilst using a lamp to provide a softer overall light to the scene. I started playing around with light sources last sememster (in a small way) using one and two sources of light for my images. ![]() ![]() I am quite excited about this weeks new assessment task, taking two images (one with people, one without) using light to create mood.
